Jason and I were on a journey of having a few kids. I was working at RGAL and serving as a kidCommunicator/life group leader/worship leader/tech/greeter/anything else that needed done position in K-2nd grade.
There was an opportunity for me to come on staff as a Producer. The first producer for kidMin. It was a new position for the ministry and certainly a new position for me. I always loved drama but I was a nurse. How did they connect? I don't know and I still don't know but I dove in.
I continued to work part-time for RGAL and a few hours for LCBC. The ministry grew and there were some shifts in staffing. I was asked to come on board full-time as the Elementary Director. I would oversee K-2nd and 3-4th grade environments on the weekend. That opened up many leadership opportunities and eventually I stepped down from my nursing position.
I was still homeschooling 2 of my 4 kiddos. It all seemed to work. The first few months were a shift for me but I had this passion for what I was doing and loved working with my team.
Last August, we were about ready to open up our brand new facility which included new environments for 2's, K, 1-2nd grade, and 3-4th grade. At the same time, we were heading into a brand new campus launch in Harrisburg. We decided to take the opportunity to restructure.
I took a new position as Multi-site Programming Developer. Since I loved curriculum, programming and training, I am working with a team of people that develop/tweek/re-create large group (drama, worship, video) and small group materials for kids ages 2, 3-5, and K-4th grade. It was cool to finally develop a system of gathering/organizing and delivering materials to 3 campuses (yes we added one more in the City in the spring of 2010) and 12 different environments!
It has really challenged me to think how to make things work for everyone(not that we always please everyone). I couldn't do it without the team that I work with. They are the ones that bring it all together. I am just navigating and encouraging now. Still homeschooling--now 4 kids! Yeah, not sure how that all works but it does. God. Yep, He is really the one that makes it all work at the end of the day. I am just along for the ride!
But wait there is more. Yes, I picked up a new adventure a little over a year ago. That adventure and challenge would allow me to walk away from ministry at the end of the day and spread my wings and fly. More on the next post.
For now, let me leave you with a thought. When you grow up, will you still decorate your parents Christmas tree? Cuz I just did :)
